Maggie Grace is an American actor who was born Margaret Grace Denig in 1983. Her best-known roles include Shannon Rutherford, a character from ABC's Lost series, and Kim Mills from the Taken trilogy. She was born in Worthington in Ohio. She was kicked out of high school after her parents divorced to go in Los Angeles to live with her mother. Though she struggled financially in 2001, her debut came acting as Rachel's Room's main character. In 2002, she was awarded an Young Artist Award in 2002 for her performance in Murder on the streets of Greenwich of a 15-year young Martha Moxley as a murder victim, Grace went on to win. Grace Rutherford played Shannon Rutherford for Lost's first two seasons in 2004, as well as sharing the Screen Actors Guild Award (with other cast members) along with her. Grace decided to concentrate on film after starring opposite Tom Welling's character on The Fog, in 2005. The role she played was Kim Mills opposite Liam Neeson (both in Taken the year 2008) on Suburban Girl as well as the Jane Austen Book Club. The same character was played by Grace as Kim Mills in Taken 2 and Taken 3 (both in 2012). Grace played Shannon's part as Shannon in Lost for two more episodes, which included the final episode of the series. The year was 2013, and she was a guest in the sixth season of Californication. She plays Faith who's an avid stargazer as well as a groupie. Hank Moody, played by David Duchovny, falls for her. Being part of the Gyllenhaal Family, she is the daughter and elder sister to the actor Jake Gyllenhaal. She began her career in the teen years with minor roles in several of his films. She also appeared together with her brother in cult favorite Donnie Darko (2001). Then she appeared as a character in Adaptation Confessions of a Dangerous Mind as well as Mona Lisa Smile (both 2002). Gyllenhaal was praised by critics for her performance as the lead in Secretary (2002), which is an erotic romantic drama as well as Sherrybaby (2006). In 2006, she was also nominated for The Golden Globe Award. After several commercially successful films in 2006 such as World Trade Center she received more attention for her role as Rachel Dawes in the superhero film The Dark Knight (2008). In the film, her performance as Crazy Heart as a mother who has a child was nominated to an Academy Award Best Supporting Actress. The following years she was a part of comedies and dramas: Nanny McPhee & the Big Bang (2010) Hysteria 2011 and Won't Back Down 2012. Other characters include as a secret agent of Secret Service in White House Down 2013, as a singer for Secret Service in White House Down 2013, as a vocalist in Frank 2014 and also the role of a teacher in The Kindergarten Teacher 2018, where she portrays the main character. Gyllenhaal was first introduced as a writer and director in 2021, with her psychological drama The Lost Daughter. For this movie, she received an award for the Best Screenplay Award at the Venice International Film Festival and nominated for an Academy Award.
